In November 2019, Coex's signature F&B show Coex Food Week returned for another jam-packed showcase of cuisine, catering, and conferences that united industry professionals and foodies alike.

Did you know? Food production trends are favoring fermented dishes in 2020, with global exports of kimchi reaching a record high from January-September 2020 of $18m USD, up 38.5% on year, according to official Korean government sources. The growth has been attributed to rising demand for health food products in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. [Cater a Korean-themed meal at your next Coex event]

The Show Coex Food Week is one of Coex’s biggest home-grown success stories, today one of Korea’s largest trade fairs for the local food and beverage industry. Launched by Coex in 2006 as ‘Food Week Korea’, the four-day event showcases everything from food products to food preparation and manufacturing equipment to buyers and sellers from around the world, seeking to create new business opportunities in both domestic and international markets. The show also aims to be a fun day out for the general public through various live events offering them the chance to sample new fare, learn cooking tips, and see professional demonstrations.

The Scope The 14th edition of Coex Food Week ran from November 20-23, exhibiting 872 companies and organizations, 63 of which hailed from overseas, to a total of 44,125 visitors. All four of Coex’s main exhibition halls (A,B,C,D) were utilized, totaling 36,007m² of event space. In addition to exhibitions of food, drink, manufacturing, and related industry services, floor space was also given to a number of concurrent events, such as the annual Drink & Dessert Show and Seoul International Baking Fair (SIBA), among others, as well as a range of conferences related to food safety, technology, and HACCP standards.

Various live shows were also held throughout the halls, including bakery contests, cooking shows and classes, while a craft beer lounge was set up in Hall D. Alongside domestic and international B2B meetings, overseas buyers could also participate in a networking dinner on site and a Seoul City Tour off site. The two main purposes for exhibiting at Coex Food Week cited by sellers were to search for distributors (32%) and to promote new products (21%).

The Results Post-event surveys showed strong overall satisfaction rates among exhibitors for the 2019 show, with 67% of those surveyed indicating they were either “Satisfied” or “Very Satisfied” with their business meetings. 50% of the overseas exhibitors in particular indicated they were “Very Satisfied” with the business meeting opportunities, a further 35% of whom indicated they were “Satisfied” with their experience. Fully one third of all those surveyed indicated they were “Highly Considering” returning in 2020.
