Coex, Seoul, a Mecca for Medical Events

Wednesday July 31st 2013, SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA – Coex Convention and Exhibition Center in Seoul has seen a boom in its number of international medical events – a growth which comes hand in hand with Korea’s continuous rise as a center for medicine and global medical tourism.

Since hosting the World Lung Cancer Congress in 2007, Coex has gone on to welcome other large-scale international medical congresses such as the World Congress on Dermatology in 2011, and the 16th International Congress of Oriental Medicine in 2012. So far in 2013, the 18th Cardiovascular Summit TCTAP, the 20th IAGG World Congress of Gerontology and Geriatrics, and the 24th Congress of international Association of Paediatric Dentistry have all enjoyed success at Coex.

Upcoming events later in the year include the 15th World Congress of Neurological Surgery and the IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium and Medical Imaging Conference.

In addition, future medical congresses already confirmed by the center include the 2015 World Allergy Congress, the 2016 Congress of the International Association for Dental Research, and the International Congress of Radiation Protection Association in 2020.

In line with Korea’s impressive developments in medicine and surgery, and its spearheading of state-of-the-art medical technologies, the Korean Government have encouraged the expansion of the country’s medical tourism business. The number of international visitors receiving medical treatment in Korea in 2012 is said to have surpassed 150,000, with Chinese tourists making up the largest percentage for the first time. The Korean government has announced that it aims for this number to have reached 300,000 by the year 2015.
