Coex and Seoul Arts Center Sign MOU to Develop International MICE Industry
Tuesday, October 16th 2012 – Korea’s leading Exhibition and Convention Center, Coex, and the Seoul Arts Center (SAC) entered a Memorandum Of Understanding on Monday October 15th to mutually develop Seoul’s Gangnam district’s MICE and culture tourism while optimizing the two centers’ attraction of international business.
The MOU, which was signed by Coex CEO Mr Sung-Won Hong and the President of the Seoul Arts Center Mr Chul-Min Mo in a VIP ceremony at Coex, clarifies the agencies’ plans to expand cooperation and further establish the Gangnam area as a cultural, tourist hub. Areas of coordinated activity between Coex and SAC include increased information share, the coordinated creation of packages and events for overseas visitors, mutual marketing and PR events, and cooperation in planning and executing activities aimed at the global MICE market.
As Seoul retains its spot as world’s fifth most sought-after meetings destination, the pressure is on for the city’s leading MICE facilities and related organizations to further develop infrastructure and services in order to vitalize international competitiveness. Gangnam has become a particular area of focus in terms of cultivating the industry.
The Seoul Arts Center welcomed over 2.5 million visitors in 2011, to over 1,000 performances and 150 exhibitions and shows. Coex currently holds over 2,000 events every year, including 200 exhibitions and 20 international tradeshows. The collaboration of these two key organizations is an exciting move in the ongoing development of Seoul’s thriving MICE market.
