Coex, Korea’s Leading Convention and Exhibition Center, is beginning to see its brand-new Coex Mall take shape, as several stores open their doors to the public this month. Renovation of the remainder of the 165,000 square meters of underground and outdoor space is expected to finish by December of this year.
Upon completion, the new Coex Mall will see over 200 big-name international and domestic stores, restaurants, and coffee shops spread across state-of-the-art new space. Five different plazas will include a food zone, with options for families, business dining, and social events, a zone for casual fashion and sportswear, a high-end brand zone, and zone for leading domestic names in fashion. A dedicated section of the mall will also connect directly to the city flight terminal, allowing travelers to Incheon or Gimpo airports the chance to make last-minute gift purchases.
In addition, a brand new subway station and 38-floor premier hotel on-site are expected to elevate the center’s offerings as a tourist and business destination. The new subway station opening later this year will offer convenient access to many destinations in Seoul not currently directly served by the existing station at the complex. The 138-room ‘Luxury Collection’ hotel by Starwood is also set to complement the existing three hotels at Coex by offering a wider variety of accommodation options to business and leisure travelers when it launches in 2016.
SM Entertainment have confirmed that they are also to join the variety of entertainment and tourism offerings at Coex, by constructing a brand-new ‘SM Town’ at the center. The ‘SM Town’ will allow K-pop fans a unique peek into the lives of their favorite musical celebrities.
