Coex to become the first Exhibition Center in Korea to Open Muslim Prayer Room

Coex to become the first Exhibition Center in Korea to Open Muslim Prayer Room

The Coex convention and exhibition centre will become the first of its kind in Korea to open dedicated facilities for its Muslim guests with the opening of its new prayer room next week.

Coex has invited Islamic organisations as well as MICE industry leaders to join them on Thursday January 28th from 11:00 to 13:00 for the opening ceremony of the prayer room.

“As the number of our internationally oriented exhibitions as increased, so too have the numbers of our muslim guests,” said Bo Kyung Byun, President and CEO of Coex. “We want to make sure our international guests feel at home at Coex, no matter where they are from. This is a step in that direction.”

The new prayer room will be opened on the third floor of Coex and will feature separate rooms for men and women. To accommodate daily prayer schedules, the room will be open from 3 am to 10 pm.  Other tools for prayer, including a Qibla which indicates the direction toward Mecca, clocks, Korans, and carpets, will also be provided for the convenience of guests.

“This prayer room is not only offering convenience to buyers and MICE visitors coming to Coex, but also encouraging cultural exchange in the fields of trade and tourism,” said Mohammed Chraibi, the chief director of the Korea-Arab Society.
