Korea’s largest smart factory and automatic control exhibition, ‘The Smart Factory + Automation World 2018’ was held from March 28 through 30 for a total of three days in Coex’s halls A, B, and C.
This year’s exhibition was the largest in scale yet, having expanded 24 percent from the previous year, and held under the theme of “the future of manufacturing”. Some 500 businesses in the smart factory and automation field took part in this year’s event displaying the latest and beta test products in motion control, smart sensors, Cyber Physics System (CPS), and more.
The annual show, now in its 28th year, has been a bellwether of Korea’s manufacturing innovation and trends. This year’s exhibition attracted some 30,000 industrial automation engineers from some 500 companies including Simens, Mitsubishi, Autonics, and iovis.
In the theme hall, a working smart factory model was exhibited allowing visitors a glimpse of the future of manufacturing. The model factory was directly connected via cloud network to a smart factory located in Gyeonggi Province’s Ansan to manufacture products directly on the site. The demonstration factory was created through a collective effort of ten local and international organizations and operated directly on-site by an engineer.
In conjunction with the exhibition, the “Global Smart Factory Conference”- Korea’s largest smart factory conference- was simultaneously hosted through which some of Korea’s largest smart factories such as Samsung Display and Doosan were able to share their respective strategies and input on the future of smart factories.
A variety of other events were also hosted such as an awards ceremony recognizing the year’s outstanding smart factory producers, conferences related to smart factory and automatic control, and more.
