After two and a half years of domestic and hybrid type events, Coex is now once again welcoming several large-scale international congresses in the second half of 2022. With growing numbers of international event attendees arriving day by day, Coex looks forward to continue leading the way for a swift recovery from the COVID pandemic for Korea’s MICE industry.
Although some international events had already taken place at Coex earlier in 2022 such as the XV World Forestry Congress in May, events in the latter part of 2022 are different in that they have a larger number of international attendees participate in person as opposed to hybrid online formats. Last month’s ACM FAccT 2022, held from June 21 to June 24, welcomed around 1,000 participants, of which almost 90% came from overseas.
This past week’s congress of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC 2022) saw 3,000 attendees participate in person and virtually. Later in 2022 will see a return of more large international congresses, such as the 20th Asian Oceanian Congress of Radiology (AOCR 2022) in September, the congress of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC 2022) and the 13th Asian Pacific Orthodontic Congress (APOC 2022) in October, and the 2022 Asian-Australasian Congress of Anaesthesiologists and the 26th PSR Congress in November – all of which will bring in several thousand international arrivals straight to Coex in Seoul.
Regarding the return of large international congresses to Coex, Steven Kim said, “With the growing number of international congresses returning in 2022, it’s really felt like a return back to pre-2019, and we are busier than ever.” He added, “We look forward to doing our part as Seoul’s main convention center to help bring the city back to its status as a world leader for international congresses, meetings, and exhibitions.”
Along with its return of mega congresses, Coex’s halls have also been full of the annual, large-scale exhibitions and festivals, such as the Character Licensing Fair running next week July 14 and other major events such as Coex Food Week and the Seoul International Cafe Show in the fall.
