Global art fairs Kiaf Seoul and Frieze Seoul returned to the halls of Coex from September 4 to 8, 2024 for their third collaboration in showcasing works of established and emerging artists from around the world. Kiaf, the country’s longest-running international art fair since 2002 featured works of over 200 galleries from 22 countries while over 110 galleries and dealers participated in Frieze.
This year, Kiaf Seoul expanded to span across two floors of Coex – Halls A, B and the Grand Ballroom on the first floor and the newly opened Platz on the second. Notably, the event featured completely new booth layouts to further streamline and improve on the viewing experience from previous years. Designed in collaboration with architect Jang Yoo-jin, booths were spaciously arranged and designed to resemble open-air city streets that allowed visitors to intuitively understand and navigate the space while fully immersing themselves in the art. Rest areas and lounges were also strategically placed throughout the halls to provide visitors with a much more pleasant experience, as if taking a stroll through a city block full of art.
Organized in partnership with the Galleries Association of Korea, Kiaf Seoul is a showcase of Coex’s expertise in organizing large-scale international events. The event welcomed over 82,000 attendees, a significant increase over the previous two years, and received widespread praise for noticeable improvements that enhanced the overall experience for visitors, further refining the prestige of the event.
Kiaf Seoul and Frieze will once again return to Seoul in 2025 with a shared commitment to celebrating the city’s thriving creative community.
